Post Posted: xvi:23 - 12 November 2009 Post subject: seized clutch plates? how do I go about freeing information technology? Reply with quote

as title.. drained the engine on my dtr then it was left for a year in my garage. now since rebuilding the bike the clutch feels fine but when I select 1st gear the cycle instantly stalls like I havent pulled the clutch in at all. Ive tried adjusting the cable but im fairly sure its deffo stuck plates..

anyway to free it other than stripping/cleaning?

Ill strip it if I have to just I dont accept a clutch belongings tool...

thanks.

You don't demand a clutch holding tool to remove the plates.

Hello

Does information technology free off? Or can you not ride it as it is?

Oft the plates can stick and will free off when you lot first select commencement if you use some revs.

Might be worth to first the bicycle and cable necktie the clutch lever back for a while and get out it idling for a scrap (probably not a good thought if yous have but done a top stop rebuild).

If it is doing information technology each fourth dimension you start it then freeing off then check y'all have the right viscosity of gearbox oil.

All the best

Keith

Quick and piece of cake way, is to ringlet forward when engine is running and and so select 1st gear so information technology doesn't stall and you are going along, rev up to 5k or something and apply dorsum restriction with the clutch in. This should force them apart.

Best style is take the clutch embrace off and remove them, soak them in diesel overnight and take a get at pulling them apart the side by side twenty-four hour period.

Depends how stuck they are.

The way I usual;ly do it is the prop the dorsum wheel off the ground (non so piece of cake on your bike) and modify into first with the engine running, keeping the clutch pulled in.

The wheel will start spinning. Once it has some speed upwardly, put the back brake on. Either the clutch will free upwardly or the engine will stall. If the latter, start upwardly and try again. Repeat until free or convinced they aren't moving. In the latter case, it'southward a strip downward task.

Yous don't need a clutch holding tool to strip the clutch plates. If the handbasket rotating is being a trouble, you tin can lock it in position by jamming a stout rag (a folded fleck of denim is ideal) in the teeth of the cog/sprocket round the exterior of the clutch handbasket where it engages with the principal drive chain/cog. Yous don't usually need to though.

On my CRM just giving it some revs and knocking it into first a few times with the rear brake held on did the job.
On Bendy's Pamp' (lots of depression downwardly torque) I almost wheelied into the neighbor's car when I forgot the clutch plates got sticky subsequently a bit of fourth dimension standing!
